Help workin' out the kinks.

My new build, see sig, runs GREAT. I never anticipated such a drastic improvment over my 939 system. There are however some issues that I haven't been able to work out. The problem is that the system appears to be a bit unstable. Almost as if it were an overclock that just wasn't quite there yet, but I haven't overclocked yet. It'll run great most of the time but every now and then I get a strange program crash or programs even refusing to launch. I've gotten a few "UNABLE TO READ/WRITE TO MEMORY" errors too.

When I was shopping around for components I had noticed a rather large number of people warning about RAM issues with my motherboard. Most of the issues seem to have been worked out through BIOS updates, of which I have the latest version, and I made sure to purchase ram that was on the compatability list.

I am in uncharted waters here as this is my first time building an INTEL based PC and using DDR2 ram. So I'm a little lost as to what I should try and "fix". Any suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

What exact ram model? Your sig says OCZ XMS2..no such thing though. You mean corsair?

If you haven't already, run memtest.

We'll I would first start out with running a couple rounds of memtest.

And is your ram the CAS4 or CAS5 version?

it is the CAS5

I would REALLY hope that it isn't a ram issue since I had to RMA the first set I got. I'll post back with results.

Memtest ran for about 6 hours with no errors.

Is it possible that maybe I have a corrupt windows installation that is causing the issues? I ask because I installed windows with the first set of ram that I received which I had to RMA cause one stick was clearly bad.

That's very possible. Try a repair reinstall.

RGR.

I'll just wipe it and start fresh. Luckily I haven't installed many apps since the install of the OS.
