Loud fans? What, I can't hear you!
Hi everyone!
I noticed the fans inside my Blue Microfly (the CPU fan, 80mm front fan, and 120mm, rear fan are roaring compared to my nearly silent 7 year old HP computer... I already installed the lighted LED 3-position fans in the rear and front but it still sounds similar to a 747 at SFO on a very windy day... Any suggestions? My ears are beginning to hurt.... Not wanting to become... Deaf Freddie |

What are the specs of the computer?
You mean the Ultra Microfly case? If you want to quiet it down you have two choices. Invest in some quality low speed fans, or get a fan controller and tune those fans down as you wish.

Remove the front 80mm fan (you really don't need it since you have the 120mm exhaust fan) and see if there is an improvement.
If it's still really noisy with just the 120mm fan you can either replace it with a low-flow low-RPM fan, do the 7-Volt trick or get a fan controller to slow down the fan RPMs. If that case uses thin sheet metal you might be hearing case vibration or resonance. Using rubber grommets in the screw holes might help to reduce this. Cricket

Nothing you build will be as quiet as a prebuilt HP, Dell, etc.

That 805 in that case is a little furnace and requires some good air movement. How tidy are your cables in there?

if you have a chipset cooler, you may be able to replace it with a heatsink
if your video card is loud, you can replace it with a after market heatsink or fan for the cpu, invest in a good heatsink, scythe ninja being an example, then undervolt a 120mm fan to cool it if the case is vibrating alot, you will want to put some weight on the side panels and as already said that 80mm intake is probably not doing much for your temps anyway so check your temps now, remove it, then check your temps after and see what happens |
