windows installation problems...

i just built a computer and im running into problems installing xp

i can get everything to work up until the actual installation of windows (the screen that tells you what step youre on, features, time left etc). within two minutes of that screen, my computer shuts down. id restart the computer, the system would go back into the installation screen and shut off again.I dont think heat is the issue here because it doesnt crash while formatting the harddrive (30 minutes+). do any of you guys know what might the issue here?

heres the drive im using:
Western Digital Caviar SE WD1600JS 160GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

Be sure that you have your CDROM as your FIRST BOOT DEVICE. Also, complete system specs would be ideal.

its already set to that. my computer only shuts down when i get to the actual installation screen with the blue background and windows logos.

but, my complete specs:

CORSAIR ValueSelect 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model VS2GBKIT533D2 - Retail

Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

Thermaltake TR2 W0070RUC ATX 430W Power Supply - Retail
Model #: W0070RUC

EVGA 256-P2-N550 -T2 GeForce 7600GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail

ASUS M2N-E Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 Ultra MCP ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+(65W) Windsor 2.0GHz Socket AM2 Processor Model ADO3800CUBOX - Retail

i've already tried a different harddrive and a different video card, so i dont those are a problem. Could it be ram+motherboard compatibility? but if they werent compatible, wouldnt the computer restart/shutdown randomly or not start at all? (mine shuts down at a specific point( actual windows xp installation screen with 39 minutes left))

Did you load your HD and RAID drivers from a floppy during the install process?

Windows does not have drivers for your Asus mobo. Your ASUS drivers CD should have a program for creating a HD/RAIDdriver floppy for use during Windows installation.

That power supply is not sufficient for a PCI-E build, it's not ATX 2.0 and is very light on +12v amps. Just because it has a 20+4 connector doesn't mean it will work right. You are also using slow ram which will hurt the performance of that processor considerably.

I would RMA the power supply and ram and get the right stuff. You need DDR2-800 ram and a true ATX 2.0 power supply.
