Boot Failure
Just got done assembling my new PC and the initial bootup pluse the BIOS setup went very well. Now when I start it up, it saide boot failure, INSERT SYSTEM DISK. Does this mean that I should insert the OS (WinXP with Vista upgrade) at thi time? Also at what point do I "fdisk" the hard drive for format and partitioning, before or after the OS has been installed?
Thanks |

That's normal - it means that there's nothing to boot from on your hard drive. You need to insert the XP disk, and change the boot order in the BIOS so that the optical drive is listed above the hard drive.
Upon reboot, the system will boot from the CD and allow you to partition the hard drive and install the OS - no 'fdisk' required. If you want more than one partition on the disc, specify how big you want the OS partition during the install, and leave the rest of the drive unpartitioned. When Windows is installed, you can use disk management to partition the rest of the hard drive. FK
