PSU + SATA Hard Disk connection problem

Hi,
Whenever I try to connect my PSU to my SATA Hard Disk the PSU just turns off.
It used to work fine before.
Is there any reason for this? Some sort of sort circuit maybe.
THANK YOU

Are you sure nothing is being grounded? Try an out of the case build to make sure.

Have you tried different sata molex plugs?

Does the computer POST without the hard drive connected?

Just asking if the motherboard actually boots up, something besides a blank screen. But nevermind. Seems like you got a bad drive.

If its a seagate you have a good 5 year warranty, they honor it well usually.

Is this a brand new drive? By "It used to work fine before.", does "it" mean the hard drive or the computer?

EDIT: We posted at the same time...nevermind.

Yeh the motherboard does boot up.
Do you think I could get the data back, it was quite important.
It was a seagate one I bought last year from ebuyer.

Has the hard drive been moved around lately? It sounds like you were just installing it in this system.

No, I hadn't moved it around but I was having problems with my old CPU which died on me. So I had to buy a new one.

Ahh...I see now. By "CPU" I assume you mean the whole computer, not the processor chip itself. In that case...sounds like the power supply in the old computer kicked the bucket and took the hard drive with it is a possibility. So, no backups available?

Sorry in Post #3 and #9 I meant to say my old PSU died on me the CPU - processor is fine.
It was also connected to an IDE hard disk which has also stopped working.
Do you think I should send them back to Seagate or should I try to send to someone in the UK who can recover the data.
Both were 200GB

Could use a data recovery company to get your data off the dead drive but it will be expensive. In the states, data recovery starts at around $500 and can go up to the thousands.
