Hey guys I have been reading and researching for a while now and think I have my first build layed out. Could you double check for any compatability issues I missed or have any other suggestions. Thanks

its all compatible however I would suggest a few changes

1. buying a extra sound card for that board is going to be a waste of money, unless you are a extreme audiophile. That motherboard comes with 8 channel HD audio integrated so I would just try that first and if for some reason you need better audio, then get a extra sound card

2. DX10 cards are going to be progressing alot this year and in a couple years when all games are all DX10, you will be stuck with a DX9 card. I would suggest using a a EvGa 7600GT or GS as a placeholder, until more DX10 are released ( couple months) and the prices will fall on DX10 cards. Plus, if you get a EvGa card, and register it, when the prices of EvGa's DX10 cards come down, you can use the step up program to send in that placeholder card, and use the value you bought it for to put towards a new card.

3. this ram should suit you fine unless you are overclocking

4. you may want to hold off on vista until the first service pack, and get xp with a upgrade coupon

5. unless you have alot of money to blow, you most likely wont need Sli, so you may want to find a different board without Sli but if you just like the features of the board then stick with it

Case - "Windtunnel"?? Sounds noisy to me...

PSU - Here's another one we've been recommending (not that the FSP is a bad choice): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139001

I would pass on SLI - especially on a Intel processor...the two don't mix that well. I'd consider an ASUS P5B. SLI is more of a marketing ploy to get you to buy more hardware...

I agree with jer888's RAM choice - I'd take the Corsair over the Kingston.

LITE-ON has some SATA DVD burners that I would switch to if you go with the ASUS p5B as it lacks great IDE support.

I would definately pick blue's linked Corsair PSU over the FSP.

And for a few bucks more then that 7950GT, you could own a MUCH faster and DX10 compatible 8800GTS 320MB.

Thanks for all the quick responses. Here are a couple of my thoughts to add to your suggestions.

The reason I went with this MOBO and Ram is I want to play around with overclocking. I have never done it and it sounds interesting. Also I like the giant copper heat spreaders on this board verses the ASUS small aluminum cooling. I have no intention of SLI.

Video Card- I am using this card for a place holder for maybe a year. I am not interested in the 8800's yet due to software and driver support. I haven't gamed on a computer in 6 years so I have a lot of catching up to do with older FPS games I never played but will enjoy. I got hooked on xbox for a long while there.

CPU is a place holder but will play with OC'ing it.

Thanks I will change PSU and also DVD drive I didn't realize that. That's why I wanted some extra eyes on this. I will eliminate the sound card also. I can always get it later if needed.

The Asus P5B Deluxe is a better overclocker.

Thanks for all the replies. I decided against the Corsair PSU due to many reviews saying it had short cables and supposedly my case is very large. On the other hand I have seen some people on Newegg rate the long cables on the FSP PSU as a con but for me it will be a plus.

I also went with the Corsair XMS RAM.

Ordered everthing today. Hopefully will get it to post first time.

A buddy of mine uses his Corsair in a black p180 without an issue.

I know the case isn't everybodies cup of tea but I like it a lot. Even with only 1 fan on low it is pushing a lot of air. With both fans on high I can feel air moving a foot away from the case. The case stays ice cold in a hot room. It is kind of freaky to touch it it's so cold.

I am really happy with my build. I can't wait to get home tommorow to mess with it. The only problem I am having is the picture doesn't fill the whole screen. But the monitor is an 8 year old cheap 19" and that may be part of the problem. I am in the process of looking at some LCD's now.

I'm interested now, how loud is the case with both side fans spinning? Being that the fans are so large, they can probably spin slow and still push quite a bit of air, so I'm curious. TIA.

What resolution and refresh rate are you using on that old monitor? Have you tried using the monitor controls to stretch the display?
