Problems with new build

I finished putting together a new build, but am having problems with the CD Drive (I think). I got Windows XP installed fine, but once I try to install the drivers nothing happens. No screen loads, and when I try to go about it from My Computer the computer locks up when I click on the D drive. When It doesn't lock up, I get a message saying D:/ is not a valid Win32 application.

Ideas?

Thanks

Hmm, if it's a bad Windows install or hard drive problem there would be other issues cropping up. Just to test, do you have another bootable CD? Doesn't matter much what it is. You're not going to do anything with it, you just want to see if it will start up ok. If it doesn't work, you probably got a bad drive as you thought.

If you don't have anything, google The Ultimate Boot CD. Not a bad idea to run though some of those tests on a new system anyway.

Well I put in a random audio CD and it worked fine, but then I tried installing a game and it wouldn't work. Windows XP worked fine in the installation though so are you sure I might have to look at a new CD drive?

I'm not sure. That's why I'd try a real boot CD. Something that will actually boot before the hard drive and Windows. If it works, then the problem is something else, but if it has problems, a bad CD drive would be a safe bet.

Also, what are your full system specs? Just in case you're looking at a known problem.

Send a message via AIM to Mr.Ferrari
I would start out with a repair install of XP.
