New pc builder needs some help
Hi, im building a new gaming pc and i am having some problems. I originally built all the parts into the the case and i was able to power the pc on or at least the fans, motherboard, and the cd drive had power. Unfortunately my monitor did not receive a signal or there was not anything displayed. Also there was not any beeps during the boot up which i expected form the case speaker.
I checked all the wires and did everything i could think of but i did not get any results. Now i have just taken out the motherboard and assembled only the neded parts outside of the case as it is recommended by http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=132409. When i turned it on i got a loud squeel form it which is strange and bothers me. I turned it off then turned it back on thinking it might have somehow been a mechanical problem with the cpu fan. It wasn't of course but i don't know what it is. my pc consists of: case- Antec Nine Hundred motherbord- Asus P5B Deluxe cpu- intel Core 2 Duo E6600 memory- 2GB OCZ Platinum DDR2-800 DDR2 SDRAM (2 x 1GB) video- EVGA GeForce 8800GTS power suply- OCZ GameXStream 700W hdd- Western Digital Raptor 150 GB cd/dvd- SAMSUNG Black DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA DVD Burner i could use any advise that any of you might have. |

Where's the squeal coming from? The CPU fan or the PSU or what?

I couldn't pinpoint where the sound was comming from, it wasn't the cpu, cup fan or the video card but it sounded like it was between the cpu fan and video card, like where the VRM is, but i'm not sure

VRM? what do you mean, sorry
![]() If it's one of the fans, you need to get it replaced. If it's not a fan, I'm not sure what else would squeal... |

Squeal could be anything. Might be a misconnection with the CPU Fan header.
As for the no display, check for the 2x2 Alternative 12V block. It plugs in next to the CPU fan, and is NOT part of the 20/24-pin connection. |

3d-o-vision: If the motherboard is out of the case and everything hooked up properly and you still don't get anything on the monitor then one of your core parts is bad. Since you think the noise might have been coming from the VRM my guess is the motherboard is defective. Cricket
