Hey!!! Little Help please.....New Build
Hi All! I'm building a budget system for a friend and need a bit of help. I'm pretty sure my list is pretty solid, but need some help with the video card. This system will not be used for gaming, so i just need a whatever video card, or should i just go with the P5B-VM with the onboard video? If i do that should i go with 2 gigs of ram? Can i get away with one? Getting a cheap video card might be more cost effective. Also, if there are any places i can save some money let me know. Thanks!

The VM motherboard would be a good choice since there is no gaming involved. And it still has a PCI-E slot if you need to add one later.
Since that motherboard has 4 DIMM slots, go with 1GB (2x512) of ram for now and if your friend needs more memory, get some more later. Good list too.

You can save some money with a P5L-MX motherboard and an IDE DVD burner. You could also wait till the end of April for the Core 2 Duo price reductions.

What do you think of the option of going with the P5L-MX? I know they run different chipsets, the P5B runs the 965 and the P5L runs the 945. Have any pros and cons? Thanks for the speedy reply by the way!

I read somewhere that with the P5B you need a special driver to run an IDE optical drive? Whats that all about?

The IDE controller on the P5B isn't native to the chipset, it uses a separate 3rd party controller that uses it's own driver (available on the motherboard CD).
