Problem with Mobo 12V connector
Hey guys, thanks in advance for any help, this is my first build.
I have the following: ECS nforce 570 SLIT-A mobo P4 D 940 3.2 Ghz Ultra X-finity 600w psu Western Digital 250GB HD 2 x 1 GB OCZ DDR2 667 Mhz XFX 7600GT XXX PCI-e video card When I put everything in the case and connect all the power and hit the button....nothing. Nothing turns on. I think I hear it click the first time I try but then nothing when I try after that. Now, when I disconnect the 4 pin 12V connection on the motherboard, the thing fires right up, all the fans are going and I can hear the hard drive spinning and everything. But I do not get any video or any beeps of any kind. When I try to hook the 12V back up it does the same thing, and when I unplug that connection again it wont start back up immediately, I have to unplug the PSU and wait a few seconds, then plug it back in without the 12V connection and it fires up, but still with no video or beeps. Does this sound like I am shorting out on the case? If so, how to I go about fixing this? Should I be getting some kind of video when the thing fires up even without the 12V connection plugged in? |

I'll give this a try, it does sound like it is shorting out but what do I do if thats the case? Also, would you expect no video without the 4-pin 12V connector in place?

By the way, my PSU does not have a 4 pin connector for the Mobo, it has two 12V 6 pin connectors and two of the prongs are just overlapping. Is this a problem perhaps?

For the motherboard to work you need the 24 pin connector AND a 4 pin CPU connector to the motherboard. That PSU should have the correct connections.
This should be your PSU: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...309&CatId=1483 You need the first and third connector to the mobo.

Thats the same PSU I picked up from TigerDirect, but the connections on that unit are different than the one I actually received. Instead of a 4 pin connector it had two 6 pin 12V connectors. I just got fed up with TigerDirect and returned the Ultra PSU and the ECS board. I picked up and MSI P6N and a 600W Hiper PSU.
From what I've read these are marked improvements over the ECS and Ultra equipment. Thanks for your help, hopefully when I get everything together this time it will post. |
