advice on my gaming rig please :)

my up and coming build is :
antec truepower trio 550w
asus P5B - Deluxe
Intel Core 2 DUO E6400
OCZ PC2-6400 Platinum Revision 2 - 2gb Ram
8800 gts 340mb
Western Digital Raptor 74gb 10,000rpm

will this play top games at full settings? gonna learn overclocking soon too.
also is it worth having a floppy drive?

Thanks again,

It looks good, I would check some if the overclocking stickies, here http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=114889. You may want to consider getting a bigger storage drive, games take up alot of space and that will get full quickly.

Good list there - the P5B Deluxe I'm told is a great Overclocker.

I'd consider switching the OCZ memory for some Corsair XMS-800, not heard of any problems with this memory in Core 2 Duo builds.

I'd also question the value of the Raptor. Yes, they're the quickest drives around, but not THAT much quicker than the Seagate 7200.10 drives, and you get a LOT more storage for your money with these. 320GB is probably in the 'sweet spot'.

Would suggest waiting a couple of weeks before going ahead with the build. The E6400 chip is due to be replaced by the E6420 - which has double the L2 cache, and is likely to be marketed at the same price, or even cheaper.

Very basically, more 'Level 2 Cache' improves speed between the processor and the memory - so more is better. If you've already bought the processor, then I don't think it's worth returning it. The E6400 is no slouch anyway, and it was by no means poor value for money.

had a look at the Seagate 7200.10 and looks really good for the price thanks, just concerned about the difference between ATA and SATA 2 connectors which one should i choose for? the P5B-D has 8 or so SATA connectors does SATA 2 and ATA connect into these?

dont worry i get it now IDE is ATA and im guessing you can plug SATA 2 into SATA connectors

Yes, SATA is SATA and IDE is ATA.
