First Build installing CPU Cooler: Support Plate needed?

The CPU in my first time build will be a QX6700 and the MoBo will be a Asus P5B Deluxe/WiFi-AP.

I have no components yet but I was looking at page 4 of this artice from Tom's Hardware about installing the cooler on the LGA775.

Reading the section that says: "Several manufacturers require a support plate to be mounted under the board to properly distribute the load; these coolers are usually attached with screws."

Does this only apply to third party coolers? I'm not using one, at least I don't plan on it at first. I don't know if the QX6700 comes with a support plate or if it's really necessary. Do these support plates only come with 3rd party coolers and should I worry about it?

My case is a Coolermaster Stacker Evo, btw.

Thanks in advance

Buy the Retail version of the cpu. It will come with all the parts needed to properly mount it to the motherboard. If a support plate is needed, one will come with it. The support plate would be included with 3rd party heatsink/fan assemblies (again, if needed) to stiffen the mobo and prevent flexing/cracking when a heavy hsf is mounted to it.

edit: This quote from the article

"Because the support plate must be placed behind the motherboard, these coolers should be mounted before the motherboard is installed into the case."

I'd like to add that ALL hsf's, including the stock one, should be mounted before the mobo is installed into the case.
