Need help picking a video card.

Hi there,

I am building a computer and I need to choose a video card. Here are the components I want to use so far...

Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe
AMD 4200+ x2 dual core processor
Seagate Barracuda 7200 500GB hard drive
Corsair XMS2 2GB DDR2 ram

I don't usually play the high end games so I may not need dual video cards (right away). When I do play video games I usually don't need to have the graphics turned all the way up. Any suggestions would be welcome. Also, I don't really care if it's ATI or Nvidia. Suggestions anyone?

A middle of the road gaming card would be a Nvidia 7600GS. It will play most games and is a good placeholder until more DX-10 cards are out.

You will never need dual cards. SLI is a marketing gimmick.

Thank you for the suggestions guys.

I have a question regarding Directx. Will Directx 10 cards play games that require Directx 9? Many of my favorite games require Directx 9. Thanks.

And, yes I'm on a budget

DX-10 cards are backwards compatibly with DX-9 software.

I think that since I'm not a extreme gamer you are correct. If I don't want to go SLI do you think I should switch my mother board and my power supply to these...

Asus M2N-E
SeaSonic S12-430 ATX12V 430W Power Supply

The only reason I choose the 500W Seasonic power supply and the M2N-SLI Deluxe(listed in my first post) were because they supported SLI. Frankly even when I do play graphic intense games, I don't turn the graphics way up. Do you think I would be better off just using one middle of the road gaming card? Thanks.

For which ever one you choose, I would up the psu to at least a 550 or 600. That evga at a minimum reguires at least 400w psu.. I would go higher so you system doesn't starve itself to provide power to the rest of itself..
