Having Troubles With Optical Drives and HardDrive...

I recently purchased a Barebones Kit through Tiger Direct, as well as all the other componenets needed to build a PC. I recieved everything and began building today. The Processor, RAM, and Video Card, are working fine, but I am having trouble with the Optical Drives and Hard Drives working while I am tryin got install Windows.

When I put a Winidows disk into the DVD/CD Drive, the disc can be read. I am prompted with the "Set-up Windows" screen. I choose to install Windows. It goes through it's process until it hits this error:

"Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer.

Make sure any hard disk drives are powered and properly connected to your computer, and that any disk-related hardware configuration is correct. This may involve running a manufacturer-supplied diagnostic or setup program.

Set-up can not continue."

I have tried both the SATA cord that came with the Hard Disk and the one that came with the Motherboard. The one that came with the Motherboard, you had to use the SATA power cable, with the cable that came with the drive, you had to use the 4-Pin legacy connector.
Even with both of these power situations the I would come up with the same error.

Now, with the Intel Motherboaord, there also came a floppy disc labelled, 'Intel Matrix Storage Technology RAID Driver", I tried booting the system with this disc but I came up with a:

"Floppy Drive can not be read; Floppy Drive not found"

So I can't install this driver.



So I am at a roadblock, the hardrive isn't being found, and the driver isn't able to install.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

First, welcome to pcmech!

Does your BIOS detect the harddrive? Also, is the windows CD xp? And does it have Service Pack 2?

As a general rule, it's better to stay away from TigerDirect; their customer service is pretty terrible, and unfortunately many people end up needing it due to the questionable quality of many of their parts.....in future, check out www.newegg.com

What is the brand/model of the powersupply that came with the barebones kit?

You need to install the drivers for the SATA controller. They are on that floppy disk. During the XP install process, watch the bottom of the screen for a prompt to "Press F6 to install...". That's the time to press F6 and install your controller drivers from the floppy. All will be evident from there.

Yes, when I go into the BIOS Set-Up the Harddrive does show up. We have tried both Windows XP Media Center, and a Windows 2000 disc. Both have stopped at the same harddrive not found message. We are going to get a plain old Windows XP Pro disc, and see if it will work.

The powersupply is an Ultra X-Finity 500-Watt Powersupply.

I did that with the floppy in the XP Install bu it came up with the same Floppy Not Found error.

I solved my problem. In the BIOS set-up I needed to change the Drive Config to IDE instead of RAID. Now my WIndows is installing! Thank you for the tips, and NewEgg website!
