Parts Help

Hello everyone,
I used to build computers with my cousin when I was younger, but he always bought the parts without me. I found a list of parts in another forum needed to complete a computer; however I would really appreciate some help in choosing the parts.
I need a fast computer with a large hard drive, and lots of memory. (If I understand others correctly, the more memory the faster; in which case I will take as much memory I can). I use my computer primarily for photography and edditing. The most run program is Photoshop, and right now my computer is "freezing" on me when I try to open a photo in photoshop, kind of makes work a little difficult, lol.
So if anyone could help me and tell me a few of the better names/products I would greatly appreciate it.

It would probably help if you told us your budget and whether or not you need an o/s, a monitor, keyboard, mouse.

For the rest, from what I gather, you want to use it mostly for photo and when you say you need a big hard drive, do you have any ideas of how big you want... My first computer had 7gb, so 80 would be huge for it, but now 250 or 320gb is pretty much standard, so when you say big, do you mean bigger than that ?

take a look around, look for a budget gaming build, then cheapen out the graphics card and add hard drive capacity. I saw a person who had a list for one less than $900, ill see if i can link...

if that price is too much for ya, just look around. Also, browse newegg. Having even a little experience, you can easily put together parts for a build.

Kilauea -
I have an o/s, mouse, keyboard, monitor, speakers, digital pad, printer, scanner... I have everything but a working tower to put them to use. For example in the past 3 hours my computer has frozen and needed to reboot 5 times. Currently I have an 80Gb hard drive, and I have filled it multiple times...320 to 400 would probably be sufficient. (I have seen my cousin put in multiple hard drives, so this may be an option I would like to keep open if I can figure out how)

Lets see, my current tower is an Emachine T2898 (about 3-4 years old) with:
325 Intel Celeron D
80 Gb Hard drive
512 mb DDR

I believe this is the most relavant information, if anything else is required, please let me know.

Budget is flexable. I would like to keep it under $1000, but I am also willing to go a couple hundred over if I need to to get what I need.

I'm in about the same boat as you, wanting to build a budget machine with as much bang for the buck as possible.

I posted what I've come up with on another thread, but I'll copy it here.

As it stands, with what I've purchased and what I have yet to get, plus using some of the stuff I already have, I'm looking at a total under $600 for this budget build. It should be quite fast enough to handle my needs for the near future, and it will OC like crazy if I decide to push it (some, perhaps). Not a bad deal...

You could save money on my build by going to an e4300 CPU and re-using your case (unless it doesn't cool well!).

You can see mine by searching for "Rate my barebones". That way you get to see prices. Note that I'm not purchasing every part on my wishlist - some are optional right now, as I try to decide which is best.

One other thought... My computer started doing that same freeze-up deal when my hard drive was about at capacity. You might want to check to see if you have enough free space left to swap files.
