Bad Timing?

Gentlemen.
I have been considering building my own pc for several weeks now. I do not know much about it. I have read through this forum for hours now, doing some research on parts, learning about them, and finally, trying to understand the lingo. I got a lot of it now, and have been able to converse with my tech-advanced friends. I was speaking with one earlier today and he mentioned something about it being a bad time to buy a new computer, or building one. I didn't have time to stay and hear the details. He said that a new age of equipment is being developed and should be out soon. What is the deal here? Would it not be a good time to invest in some yesterday's top products since the price should be dropping?
Fill me in.

There's new hardware being developed all the time so there really is no "bad" time. However, MS is lowering the pricing on some of their C2D processors later this month.

Actually when a new generation of hardware such as processors are coming out then yes you want to wait till they are released because then the older stuff really drops in price. Thats what I usually do is just wait for the new stuff and then buy the slightly older versions at clearance prices.

I think Panama Red meant to say "Intel" will be lowing the price of their processors, not Microsoft.
