My First Built - Gaming Computer

Ok, I've been wanting to build my own computer for a long time and now I'm finally doing it. Only problem is that I'm a noob and am still learning everything.

This is a list of parts I found for a serious gaming computer, and first thing you'll probably notice is the very high price of all of this. I've been saving up for a long time, and so I have up to $2,500 to spend on this computer *yes I've been saving up forever to get this much....* so I want it to be as good as I can make it.

Please help me find the best parts for making this computer, this is what I have so far.

Welcome to PCMech! Looks like you've done your homework. At first glance, everything looks to be in good shape. You will need to include the cost of your OS, however. Vista is the gaming platform of the future and will definitely utilize that hardware, but I'm a little hesitant to switch before they've worked out all the bugs. Looks like newegg still has XP Home for $89, if you're wanting to wait on Vista.

Why only a CDROM? Pick up a DVD Burner, so you can burn and read CDs and DVDs. Grab a SATA LiteOn that comes with Nero.

I agree with KovIce, stick with XP for now. Upgrade to Vista when the kinks are worked out.

Nice rig, but if your a gammer I would recommend a different keyboard moust orther than Microsoft. Look a Logitech, they have great keyboard/mouse combos, that will be better for gamming than the one you choose.. I would also be hesitant on paying 800+ for the processor.. You can find others cheaper that will give you great performance for less. I see it is quad, but I would wait until they have been out for a while and the price drops... JMTC

Switch to this drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106046 Then you can burn discs as well. Your previous choice was a read-only drive.
