My Second First Build
My first one is about to go..although everything is running good except the OS (XP home) and it's about used up after the cable man deleted all my windows and I did the same a couple yrs later.
Anyway I've forgotten everything I didn't know before (old) and need lots of help to try and put another one together before this one conks out leaving me high and dry. I thought that had happened yesterday, but after many hrs. got the OS to reinstall after I had to delete all my windows files. The computer would just cut off everytime it got a load on it and I tried to fix it through XP..ended up costing me my windows. All I think it needed was a new heatsink fan..after I lost everything the way i got it to reinstall was by blowing out the fan with an industrial strength leaf blower and then opening up the tower door and putting a big house fan on the processor..it hasn't cut off since. My system now is AMD Athlon XP 2000 1.26GHz, ASUS AtV333 Motherboard, 512 MB of RAM 80GB Western Digital HD Turtle Beach sound card, ATI video card. This build was glitch free..not a problem with any hardware since built..5yrs ago. Only thing I do with it is surf net, watch video, and post digital pictures on outdoors forums so was kinda thinking about a barebones like at newegg..ASUS V3-M2NC61S AMD Socket AM2 AMD Sempron/Athlon 64/Athlon X2 up to 5200+ NVIDIA GeForce 6100 4 x 240Pin GeForce 6100 Barebone. Does the processor come with that or just the socket in the motherboard for one? I'm going to go on the cheap this time and try to come up with as good or better than I got. Thanks for any suggestions and help on what I need to do. Last edited by Iflyt; 04-14-2007 at 10:04 AM. |

That barebone kit does not come with a CPU. It is just a motherboard and a case. But you can probably do better buying your parts separately.
What is your budget for this PC? Do you need the computer only or things like keyboard/mouse/monitor/speakers/OS as well? Welcome to PCMech.

I'm only going with the computer right now..may get another monitor and other things later. I want to get the system going while I've still got this one working good. I put over $1200 in the last one and want to try and go with proven, price reduced, older components, with this one and try to save a few dollars. Will go with a motherboard with sound and video on it. Got to have a new OS more than anything..probably Vista Home Premium and will build everything around a AMD athlon 64x2 processor.
I can buy pretty close to what I want from Best Buy for about $600..that's the AMD processor, tower, CD/RW, MB, Vista Basic, 2 gigs of memory and 250 gb hard drive. So I want to keep the money close to that if I can and build a little better system. All suggestions are welcomed.. |

This is where I'm at now....I'm just throwing this post out here in case anyone one has time and see's problems..all this is very confusing to me and this is the way I go about it. I'll keep posting, getting help, shopping, reading, switching around changing my mind..etc. till I get things kinda straight in my head then make decisions.
I don't use the computer for games..just digital camera..and video in future along with maybe hook up to TV. However, I want to go with the AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ Windsor and Asus motherboard. So far I've contiplated putting it in this ASUS T3-M2NC51PV AMD Socket AM2 AMD Athlon X2 / Athlon 64 FX / Athlon 64 NVIDIA GeForce 6150 4 x 240Pin GeForce 6150 Barebone or just going from scatch and using ASUS M2A-VM Socket AM2 AMD 690G Micro ATX AMD Motherboard or the one in barbone . Like front card reader in tower..if case doesn't have one will install BYTECC BT-818 42-in-1 USB 2.0 5.25" internal Multi I/O card reader Power... COOLER MASTER eXtreme RP-500-PCAR ATX from factor 12V V2.01 500W Power Supply 110-115V/ 220V-230V Nemko, TUV, cUL, CE, BSMI, FCC, CCC - Retail Money is a factor with me that's why I'm trying to get a MB with decent sound and video on board. Far as memory and harddrive type I'm pretty much at a loss. Would like enough to ensure good Vista operation if I go that way..will start with Xp Home. Need a do it all CD/CD/RW..just in case I need one...is floppy still nessessary? Hard drive... Western Digital Caviar SE WD2500JS 250GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM. Also will get new monitor.. SAMSUNG 941BW Black 19" 4 ms (GTG) DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 500:1 - Retail Don't know which memory would be best. Thanks for any help on this |
