New Gaming Build
Hi,
I modified my upgrade list. I was just interested in AMD but looking into Intel also, with price drop coming. The boards support sli which I won't be using just now. Waiting till I can get a 24 inch LCD monitor. Wanted to be prepared for the future. I'm not buying the parts yet until I see what the final prices will be. There will be lower price with the corsair psu. I'm going to get the parts from zipzoomfly because of free shipping and no sales tax to NJ. Please let me know what I should change if anything. Recommendations are always welcome. I have the total prices as of today Some of the games I play are BF2, COD2, Half Life 2, Delta Force (all), CS Source, Silent Hunter, after this build flight Sim X, Farcry, Unreal Tournament. They only get better so I wanted to build the best that I can. Till wife sees bill. LOL Thank you for your time. Here are the specs AMD: Case: Antec nine hundred PSU: Thermaltake 850watt or Corsair HX 620watt Mobo: Asus Crosshair CPU: AMD 64 X2 Dual-Core Processor 6000+ Socket AM2 cpu fan: Zalman cnps9700 HDD: WD 150GB raptor 10,0000rpm serial ata RAM: Crucial Ballisitix tracer 2gb ddr2 800. possible 4 gb Video Card: PNY 8800 GTX 768mb PCI Express. For ram would recommend Corsair XMS DDR2 800, they seem to like Asus boards.
Would go with the Corsair PSU. Not sure if you need a quad core for gaming, could go with an E6700 and save about $400 and not really give up much gaming performance. The Seagate 7200.10 HDs are almost as fast as the Rapters and more storage for the buck.

You don't need all of that to play those games, unless you are just dead bent on blowing some cash. My sig plays BF2, HL, FC, SH3 and IL2 perfectly. That's one way to go. An ASUS P5B will work fine. If you feel the need for two video cards someday, get a Deluxe. This is all you need:
ASUS P5B E6600 2 GB PC2 5300 - CORSAIR VALUE SELECT is the deal right now- EVGA 8800GTS 320mb or SAPPHIRE X1950xt video card SEAGATE 7200.10 - definitely Really great PSU. That one sounds fine. That system will fly and leave you some extra money to get your extras and take your wife to dinner and a movie.

thanks for the replys. Like I said, I like recommendations. some of the parts are ones that I would like but are not needed. I figure I'll take the recommendations of people who reply and make a final parts list. With so may choices on parts it's hard to decide which is the best way to go.
I read in one of the posts, I think it was a sticky post about an issue with the P5B chipset (P965) and IDE controller. Thats why I changed the board from the P5B to the P5N32-E,(nforce 680i). The optical drives I'm getting are ATA I didn't want to run into any problems. Wife would be happy with a lower price. LOL thanks again for the replys. |

Just swap the opticals to SATA versions. Doesn't make sense to buy IDE right now, it is a dead end unless you are reusing old parts. The price difference is only a couple bucks. There is no reason to go with an SLI board your setup. As chuck mentioned, it is overkill.

Hi Alaron,
Thought about getting sata opticals but I was trying to make it easier for me by ordering everything from zipzoomfly but they don't have sata opticals. I'm trying to find a company that has free shipping and no sales tax to NJ like zipzoomfly. I'm going to do some checking at newegg, and see what other companies there are out there. The board i was going to looking into was the ASUS P5B-E Thanks for the reply |
