ATX12V Power 450-watts PRESCOTT model: RX-450K
ASUS M2N32-SLI Premium Vista Edition Socket AM2 NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI MCP ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail w/ AMD 64 X2 +5600 XFX PVT71JYHE9 GeForce 7950GT 512MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP ExTreme Edition Video Card - Retail 2gb of G.Skill 240 -pin DDR2-800 250gb Western Digital HD 7200 RPM 3.0gb Sata Sony NEC Optiarc 18X DVD±R DVD Burner With 12X DVD-RAM Write Black E-IDE / ATAPI Model 7170A-0B - OEM My problem is I went through the Windows XP Pro install...went fine until the install stopped then my screen blacked out and went to sleep. So I tried a restart and my computer powers up (everything spinning and lighting up as it should) then shuts down at 4 seconds after the button has been pushed. how do I fix this problem? (I know that all of the gear worked before I did the windows install. I'm not sure where to go from here to see which part died or what not). Thanks for your time. (i apologize if this is a repost, i did a search on the forum but I wasn't finding a post that was helping me and I'm kinda skeptical about trying this sticky at this point...).

Looks like the PSU you have is an older ATX when you need is an ATX 2.0 PSU for your motherboard. ATX 2.0 has a 20+4 connector for the 24 pin main power for the mother board AND a 4 pin CPU connector. Also, that supply is probably a bit small for the video card. The model number seems to be a Raidmax, would get a good PSU on the name alone.

would you mind to supply a few ATX 2.0 PSU names?
The power supply is from Raidmax, (came with the Sagitta case i bought) and according to the graphics card box and manual the system needs a minimum of 350. If 450 isn't enough should I go with a 600-watt PSU? thank you for the feed back |

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817189003 this Xclio is good for the price and should be enough power for your video card.

ePOWER isn't a hi profile or much used brand at the 'Mech so can't really give an opinion on it.
We generally recommend known, quailty brand and models. |

okay update on situation and gear:
PSU: BFG 800 watt still running into the same issue. (computer starts up everything runs, optical blinks light, motherboard confirms power, all fans spin, hard drive does its clicks, no beep errors, graphics card does what it's supposed to. This all happens for 4 seconds then the power is cut. I've got both cords plugged into the motherboard, (4 pin and 20+4)...do not get a single confirmation beep from speaker on MB). I'm going to toy with putting the Ram into another slot (similar as is suggested in the manual and see if that works) before I re-gut the case and begin to test each part outside of the case to ensure its function. Any other suggestions? (also this thread may be deleted by moderators should no one else have any other input as I will most likely start a new thread due to the problem has evolved into hardware issues and not XP installation issues. Thank you) Last edited by iamtherforiam; 04-17-2007 at 09:47 AM. |

If you haven't done so already, pull the motherboard from the case to troubleshoot the problem.
Strip the system down to the bare essentials (motherboard, CPU, CPU heatsink, 1 stick of RAM, video card, keyboard, PC case speaker, power supply and monitor) and see if the system stays running or shuts down. If it runs without shutting down you may have a defective component (one of the parts that isn't hooked up yet). If it does shut down then one of the core components is defective. Cricket

thank you for the tip cricket. I went through and read most of the other problems and such in the sticky and I hope it doesn't come down to that but if thats what is needed I'll it down and do that. (and thanks for posting the two diagnosis's for the possibilities).
