Unhappy First build problems!!

Hi

First up my Beast has the following internal organs:

*Intel blkd975xbx2, i975x, lga775, 1066fsb, ddr2800 pci-e sata, raid giglan, ieee, atx Motherboard
*Intel s775 Core 2 duo E6600 ( 2.4GHZ ) lga775
*Thermaltake Toughpower 600w
*Nvidia Sparkle 8800GTS 320MB
*Corsair performance RAM 2 X 1024GB
*Western Digital CaviarSE 500gig HDD SATA-300
*Aopen cd/dvd rom drive
*Samsung cd/dvd Burner
*Samsung 20" lcd

These are all new parts, so far i have them all connected and i think working properly ( they should all work together without conflict right? ). When i first turn on the pc after putting it together i can get to the bios fine . So i assume everything is connected correct. It recognises my h.d.d. and says no arrays identified

I dont have a floppy drive connected.

I have a installation cd with my motherboard, 2 with my intel chip and some floppy's which i cant use anyway. I have win xp home cd new with keys etc. No disc's came with the hdd.

Now the problems arise: After changing the bios to boot from the cd drive i insert my win xp cd next right? I keep getting MEDIA TEST ERROR, CHECK CABLE message have done so. My motherboard had 4 black sata connections 3 blue and 1 red one.The h.d.d. is only recognised on the red connection should it work in any of them?

Anyway i just want to get to the next step and get windows instralled so i can add all the drivers updates etc.

Thanks, help is much needed................

Are you using IDE Optical Drives? Jumper them CABLE SELECT, plug it all back in, recheck your BIOS config and try again.

Have Aopen cd-rw dvd-rom says e-ide/atapi on the box. The other one is a Samsung dvd/burner 18x dual layer. I just plugged them both in and they didnt work. Unplugged the samsung 4 pin power connector it was still connected to the ide cable with the aopen on the same cable. reset and still the aopen didnt work. Unplugged the ide cable from the samsung, rebooted then the aopen comes alive!

So when i have 2 cd dvd drives connected neither work... Just one and it works using the end of the ide cable furtherest from the motherboard.

Still have original problem cant get past the media test error!!!!

I will stick to just one disc drive for now can always add the other one once windows is up and running

It sounds like you need to jumper the back of your CD/DVD drives correctly. Try changing the Samsung jumper on the back to master and connect the IDE cable farthest from your mobo (might be black in colour rather than the one in the middle whihc could be grey in colour) then change the Aopen drive to slave and connect the gray IDE connection. Also one at a time until you get windows up and running. Hope this helps and that i'm correct. 'Cos lets face it, who would take advise from a miner 3 posts newbie?? lol
