Welcome to PCMech.
First thing to do is avoid buying from TigerDirect. We recommend www.newegg.com for much better customer service. For an Intel system, we recommend an Asus P5B motherboard and a Core 2 Duo E6600 or E6300. Pair that with 1GB (2x512) of Corsair VS DDR2-667. Switch to a SATA hard drive. Seagate is good. Plextor burners are nice, but overpriced. A retail LiteOn that comes with Nero is a great buy. You'll need to exchange the power supply for something higher quality. CoolerMaster's are 'ok' but check our list for something in blue: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=131195 FSP is a good buy here.

Alaron,
Thanks for the info, but I already have these components. I do have a SATA drive. I wrote down the ATA but that ATA drive is for my Dell upgrade. The SATA is also 750. |

I would stay far away from Ultra products...sketchy quality. For the RAM I'd go with Corsair.
And you may not need a separate NIC/ethernet card because all new motherboards already come with it built in...unless you specifically need gigabit ethernet for something. Cricket

Since you already have those parts, just go for Alaron's suggestion for Mobo, CPU, and RAM.
His suggestion about a better power supply is a warning. Your power supply is not know for its quality and when/if it goes out it could take your whole system with it. So it is recommended that you go shopping for another before loading up all those nice new primum parts. Alaron linked the good power supply list for you. |
