Post HDD Help wont install

Hi,

My first build has hardly progressed. My current problem is that on the first boot of my genuine windows xp home disc it tells me no hard drive detected or installed ( this is the only disc that has run in my system so far ). It does however load a few drivers and things for about 2 minutes before i get this message, which i was quite excited to see!

My brand new HDD ( Western digital caviar 500gig sata-300 ) is found in the bios. It is connected with thin sata cable on my mobo ( Intel blkd975xbx2kr )

Do i need drivers for the hdd if so how do i get them or has something got to be changed in bios so windows finds my hdd? I have some discs that came with the mobo but they dont do anything yet i think i need to get windows installed before i put these in right?

Please post any information that may help my situation, it will be much appreciated. I just dont know what to do next this should be the easy part shouldnt it?

Your motherboard has native support for SATA HDDs and unless the hard drive is defective the system should detect the hard drive during the OS installation. Reread the motherboard manual and make sure the SATA HDD is connected to the proper SATA connector on the motherboard and if you need to do anything in the BIOS prior to OS installation.

I will give it a try as there is 8 sata connector's on the mobo. 4 black, 3 blue and a red.

Cheers Mate

Will let you know on progress or you may see another post from me!!

I've been building for 10 years now and I always read the motherboard manual before I begin assembling a computer. Lots of important information can be found in it.

Read the manual before starting? What a new concept! I learn something every day on this forum.
