Second build, but it has to be cheap
Building a cheapy to hook up to my HDTV mostly for watching and storing files. I would like to keep it under $600 for sure which is where its at, but getting closer to $500 would be sweet. Let me know what you think. Oh, and would it be worth it to go with the E6300 over the E4300 C2D? If you know anywhere I can shave price but not performance it would be much appreciated. And thanks for all of your help on the first build, specs are on the signature. Runs like a champ.

Not a bad start but I have a few suggestions.
MSI boards are 'ok' but the Asus P5L-MX is a much better buy for about the same price: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131041 Rosewill PSUs are of questionable quality. And that is not an area to cut corners. Go with this FSP instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817104954 I'd stick with the E4300, but you may want to wait a week for the upcoming price drops on C2D chips. See the sticky at the top of the forum. Samsung Spinpoints are not the greatest quality drives. Seagate's are much better and have a longer warranty to boot: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148136 Finally, go with a Retail SATA LiteOn DVDRW that comes with Nero. That Samsung doesn't have software.

Thanks, I think I will go with the ASUS board as mine hasn't had any problems and also the seagate cause I have a 320G seagate that has been running for about three years now without a problem, the samsung just had 5 eggs.
What do you think about these PSU's a little cheaper after rebate and better reviews? Thanks http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817153028 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817159040 |

The Thermaltake unit is good, not the CoolMax.

Actually.............
a realistic budget (today) leans more toward 7-800.00. Here's a suggestion:

Chuck, the OP asked for an under 600 build.

Alaron, I appreciate your input but I just noticed that the ASUS board you mentioned has onboard video. Can you override that with a video card or is there a similar board w/o onboard video?
Thanks |

Yes, the board has a PCI Express x16 slot, so you can add any high-performance video card at a later date (or right now, if you like).

I posted it as a high quality motherboard for a budget system. It fits the bill perfectly for that. Just pop in that video card and the onboard turns off.
