Used Motherboard

Hi,

I've recently decided to build my first pc and was wondering whether it was a good idea to buy a used motherboard (Asus P5W DH Deluxe wifi) from eBay. How would the warranty work if the motherboard turned out to be defective, would i need the original receipt or is it simply safer just to buy it from a reputable website.

I was also wondering if you guys could tell me some good Canadian computer websites to purchase all the necessary parts. Ive been looking at tiger.ca, ncix.com and canadacomputers.com

Thanks for the help

I generally don't trust used mobos, i wouldnt go for it unless it was a large discount.
Newegg.com, but i dont know if they do ca. (tiger has bad rep)

On the warranty, you should check to see if ASUS will cover you since you aren't the first purchaser. Their tech-support phone number is 1-502-995-0883 (US only and no toll-free number, sadly), and they could probably tell you about the warranty. I personally wouldn't risk it unless you're saving a lot of money.

Newegg.com does not ship outside the US. I'm not sure where the Canadians on this forum buy t heir parts; one of them could recommend a reputable dealer though. Stay away from tigerDirect!

I use Memory Express in Calgary for parts. Pretty good pricing and lots of stock on hand. Quite reputable too.

Ironic... I just finished reading The Power Of One myself very recently!

Anyway, that's a very good mobo. I'm using one myself.
