This build is going to look very familiar to the readers of this board. I'm trying to build a decent gaming computer for around $1000, not including a monitor, which is what most people here seem to want. Anyway, I just want a final confirmation for these components.

Any comments? I guess I'll have to get XP too for games, but I'll mainly be running Kubuntu Linux. How hard is it to get games working in Linux? Any loss of performance? |

Go ahead and get a SATA DVD Burner - that's the way it's all going now. If you're not planning on overclocking, you'll be fine using CORSAIR VALUE SELECT PC5300. Don't know about gaming with Linux; someone else here can help you with that. The rest looks pretty good.

I'd look at different power supplies - the Goodpowers aren't that great.
Windows games will not run in Linux without a virtual machine or an emulator - both of which hurt performance. I'd set up a dual boot and use real XP for gaming. |
