Lanner PC

I ended up winning a local CSS tourney and got 600 bucks. Yay me. So i am no longer do my upgrade on my old PC Im going from scratch. It's a small case, so its easier for LANs, which I opften do.

Any thoughts would be great. I'm going XP for now I believe. I'will wait for VistaSP1.

Case -Thermaltake LANBOX- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811133044

Motherboard -ASUS P5B-VM- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131043

CPU -Conroe E6600- http://www.newegg.com/product/Produc...82E16819115003

RAM -CORSAIR ValueSelect 2GB - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145098

PSU -CORSAIR 520HX - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139001

HDD -Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD2500KS 250GB - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144701

GPU -EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 320MB- http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130082

Optical -LITE-ON 18X DVD±R DVD Burner - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106043

Two questions
1.)Is that an ok PSU for the case. I know its a godd PSU but will it fit the case. I read the specs for the case but unless I missed somthing, I didn't see anything one way or another.

2.)Is that an ok mb. looking around it seemed to be the best way to go for MicroATX and I prefer ASUS for MBs.

With the good ventalation and included case fans I'm not worried about heating and I do not plan on OC'ing at all. and unless the integrated Ethernet isn't satisfactory I don't plan on anding any other cards to restrict airflow. If I missed anything let me know.

And on the upside since this is a new PC i can donate the old one to my Mom for office work and she will not have to buy one.

You can install a standard ATX power supply into that case.

Yes, it's a good motherboard...but I would use this one instead.

You can get a good Antec PSU for equal or less.

I'm not too sure, but surely someone else can answer this at the same time...

What is the difference between the P5L-vm and the P5B-vm, from what I see on Newegg, there is the memory standard, the number of SATA connectors(I think), the audio ports, the number of USB onboard, the onboard video and audio... But in the end, there is a 30$ difference... I know the P5B is supposed to be a great mobo, but I have no clue about the P5L...

They use different chipsets. The P5L uses the 945G chipset and the P5B uses the G965 chipset.

TY for cathcing that. That is actually the one in my shopping cart on newegg I don't know how I did that. Changed it in the first post.

Edit: Do you think it would be worth the extra 10 dollars to get a Lite On sata drive so I don't have the IDE ribbon cable in the case since it is a small area already?

Yes. If I was building a new computer now I'd definitely go with all SATA drives. Besides, the chipset on the P5B-VM doesn't support IDE channels natively, it uses a third party controller for that and I heard it's not that good.

Ya I'd go all SATA. The one failing of P5B and other 965 boards is that the IDE controller is kind of hit or miss. It sure couldn't hurt to go all SATA for the extra space and cooling in a small case anyway.

My one concern was if the 8800 GTS would fit in that case. The one review on newegg said yes so I assume it will. Good luck on the build.

TY, yeah I checked TT's site and you have to move the HD cage up but it shows how to do that so the 8800 can fit.

One last question. I was looking at the two versions of the case and one has the windows and one doesn't . the version that has the windows has vets on each side of the window, however the version without the windows has a "honeycomb" vent on each side. It looks like the windowless one would provide better ventilation. Does that seem to be right? I really do like the blued leds but the cooling is more important.

The one with the window has air vents in both windows and looks like it would allow quite a bit of air through. I wouldn't worry about it.
