Please post the complete system specs for this computer. List the parts by brand and model including the power supply.

Do you have your processor heatsink/fan installed securely (completely locked in).
Rosewill PSUs are not recommended either. You may want to look into a quality PSU such as Antec, FSP, Sparkle, etc... |

Follow the troubleshooting instructions found here. You must remove the motherboard from the case when doing this. Make sure the heatsink is installed properly and that all the power connectors to the motherboard are plugged in securely. Is that a Socket 478 or LGA775 processor? The LGA775 heatsink is difficult to install if the motherboard is already mounted in the case. Here's a LGA775 heatsink installation guide.

Was it the heatsink being installed improperly, or you needed a new CPU?

Glad you got it working. Enjoy your new computer.
You should also consider investing in a quality PSU. It will payoff in the long run. |

What are the processor temperatures?
Boot up... go into the BIOS setup and monitor the temps until the computer shuts off by itself. If the temperatures are much higher than 40 to 50C then your processor is still overheating. Either you are not installing the heatsink/fan correctly or your heatsink/fan is defective. Usually its the first one. If the temperatures are normal then we can look elsewhere for the problem. |

That may be possible. But you can always clean it off and reapply a new layer. But that voids the warranty I believe.
You said that after you installed the heatsink/fan correctly it stays on longer now... if so... what you need to do is power on (with the heatsink/fan installed securely) and go into the BIOS and monitor the temps up until it shuts down again. Then post the temps here. We are trying to isolate your exact problem right now. If it is not due to the processor overheating... we can move on somewhere else. |

60C at idle is kind of high. Once the computer gets going and you put a load on it there's a good chance it'll shut down again. Are you sure you're locking down the pins properly?
In the BIOS, what is the shut down temp set to? Cricket

Check your BIOS thoroughly. They are all somewhat different, but look for something related to PC Health. The shutdown temps are usually in there.

If you are sure the heatsink/fan is installed right with the proper amount of contact and thermal compound in between yet the temps are still running high... then maybe you have a defective heatsink/fan. If so... a new one is in order.
But... double check and make sure all directions have been followed with the heatsink installation. The CPU idle temps should definately not be in the sixties. ***IMPORTANT*** - You didn't happen to accidently OVERCLOCK your processor did you? To make sure... you can just go into the BIOS setup and load the default BIOS settings. Last edited by minsonngo; 04-25-2007 at 05:05 PM. |

Intel sells replacement thermal material which conforms to their warranty standards. This assumes you have a retail boxed processor that came with the Intel heatsink/fan.
