New build, not for regular use
So What I'm interested in doing is building a MAME arcade for myself. I'm basically going to build a very simple computer for this because you don't need much power to run these old games.
The catch is I got a wild idea and don't know if its possible or where to start. Since MAME can run on Linux I want to see if I can get Linux with my roms and MAME running off a USB thumb drive. I know they have CF to IDE adapters , but I figured USB would be faster. Do you guys think its possible? Will it run slow if it can be done? |

You can certainly boot linux off of a usb flash drive....I'm doing it right now. You'll need a drive big enough for a knoppix image (700MB) plus whatever program you want to store on it. Take a look at these instructions: http://www.pendrivelinux.com/2007/01...b-knoppix-510/

How well does it run?
Are all those thumb drives the same speed? I mean, all I need to do is probably get a USB 2.0 and thats as good as its going to get. Right? Last edited by footfikinmasta; 04-26-2007 at 06:51 PM. |
