I am building this desktop computer, but it will not boot. I have been working on it for a couple of weeks now and just cannot get it to work. I didn't buy all the components from newegg, but I linked them so you could see what they all are. The graphics card is just temporary, I use it when building systems because I know it works. Will upgrade when I get the time and money.(Any sugesstions?) Anyways, thanks a lot for your help because this is really frustrating me. I have followed the sticky thread on the top, which included removing everything from the case and switching on using a screwdriver but still no luck. Will try again, or anything else practical to get this thing to work. THANKS!!!

What brand power supply are you using? Is it the proper type (ATX 2.0 with the 24 pin motherboard power connector and the 4 pin 12v power connector)? Have you tried another compatible power supply yet?

Exactly what happens when you try to boot up? Be specific as possible with your description.

The power supply is a off-brand, but I know for sure it works. Tested it in another computer, and it worked fine. The motherboard, memory, processor, and the hard drive are brand new(any one could be duds). The dvd-rw worked fine when I pulled it from another computer and the graphics card works fine in other computers.

The problem when booting is something like this. I start it up, all fans, lights, front panel led, and the processor heats up. There is just no video, but the monitor does detect that it is being connected just that there is no video. I am positive the power supply is working and it has the correct connections. I don't see why it won't work. I am willing to try anything that you think will help me, I just got back from lunch and am going to take it entirely apart, and make sure that everything is connected corectly and maybe try taking everything out of the case again

When you had the motherboard out of the case did you place it on something non-conductive like cardboard or wood?

Yes, it was sitting on the motherboard carboard box, that it came in.

Several things to consider: the motherboard may need a BIOS update to support the CPU you got/AM2 motherboards work best with DDR2 800 ram, the recommended ram for AM2 is Corsair XMS DDR2 800/PSU may not have enough power for the CPU.

Try booting up with only one sick of memory installed at a time. You may have a dead stick.

AM2 boards are also very picky with memory. You should use DDR2 800 memory as flanzig1 already stated.

It works!!!

I had a dead stick of memory as assumed above. Thanks a lot, I don't know why I didn't try that before. Anyways, It works fine now, thanks a lot Cricket, flanzig1, and minsonngo. I really appreciate the help. Now that the broken has been fixed, overclocking must ensue!!!

If you are planning on overclocking you might want to upgrade that memeory to DDR2 800 before you get to far.
