New build gives blue screen. Help!

I finished my build. I entered my BIOS successfully and changed the boot device to CD ROM. I restarted the machine with the Windows XP upgrade CD in the drive. It asked for my original CD, so I put in the Windows 2000 CD. I had it format my drive...then when it was done formatting, I got the blue screen: Stop: 0x0000007B. I only have one SATA hard drive in the machine and it is brand new. Help is appreciated.

Try it with just one stick of RAM installed. If the problem persists, replace the first stick with the other stick.

Thanks Cricket. That appears to have worked for now. I have 2 sticks of RAM and 4 slots. Do they need to go into certain slots or was the 1 stick just maybe not installed all of the way?

There has been problems with Kingston RAM the last few years...their quality isn't as good as before and problems like this are kind of common. I stopped using Kingston about 4 years ago after a bunch I installed in several computers started to develop problems. I've been using Corsair ValueSelect RAM ever since and haven't had any go bad yet.

The install was finished very fast. My 250GB hard drive, WD 2500JS, now has only a total capacity of 127GB. What causes that?

The HDD is probably limited by your OS.

You need Windows XP with SP1 or SP2 installed. Or if you are running Windows 2000... you will need SP3 or SP4.

I updated Windows XP to SP2 and it still shows that it only has a capacity of 127GB. Any suggestions?

That is strange, windows should recognize at least 239 I have a 150 and it recognizes 139. Download the diagnostics from WD and run it..

Now you have to go into Disk Management, right click on the unallocated space, create a new partition and then create a logical drive within it.
