Power supply

I bought the following power supply last year and it is on my sons computer once I installed it thought all was working fine but realize the fan facing the back of the computer where the outlet is plugged in is not working. I find the computer quite warm inside the fan on the processor is working fine. but the power supply fan doesn`t seem to be that much good. this is the one I have. Enermax FMA II ATX12V Ver 2.2 460W Computer Power Supply EG465P-VE FMA, SLI Ready, RoHS Compliant, Supports PCI-E & SATA, w/ 2 Fans .
Any ideas on what the problem could be. THE FAN ON THE BOTTOM FACING THE MOTHERBOARD IS WORKING A LITTLE BIT BUT NOT MUCH AIR COMES FROM IT EITHER.
THANKS

The fan could have died on you. See if blowing off any dust inside the PSU will allow to fan to work properly again.

If that does not work you can either replace the PSU fan or aquire a new PSU (what I would recommend).

Many of today's power supplies come with thermally controlled fans in them. I know some Antec power supplies appear to have dead fans but once a certain temp is reached the fans come to life and work to cool down the power supply. Enermax was one of the early adopters of the double fan design and they may have put thermally controlled fans in your power supply.

If the computer is working okay you may have nothing to worry about. Tell your son to play a really demanding game and monitor the power supply fans to see if they kick on once the going gets tough.

Also make sure at least every other month unless it is in a dusty area to open up the side of the case, disconnect the power cord from the psu and clean it out with compressed air.. It is good to do this because dust acts as a insulator and will trap in the heat, which will make your parts run a lot hotter than they should.. Also if your concerned about possibly having issues with your psu, then it might be a good idea to go and purchase another, before your psu dies and possibly take the rest of your machine with it...

Cricket's right - the fan might be disabled by the PSU control circuitry in order to provide you with a quieter experience.

Think you were right about the fan being controlled so it would run quieter. Haven`t been able to tell yet if running the games makes it come on but anytime now when I feel the computer it has been cool to the touch what I did do though was have them move the computer off the floor so that air could move in under neath where there are air vents not too many on the side like my own . Wasn`t hardly any dust so that wasn`t the problem. Thanks for your help
