installing new processor, any tips?

Hey everyone,

Well I decided to pick up a 4200+ X2 since I need to get at least another year or so out of my socket 939 machine and this will do the trick. I've been searching around and haven't seen anything, but anything I need to be aware of on this install? Is it pretty straightforward, take the old one out and drop in the new processor? Will the bios just recognize the new chip or do I need to do anything before hand? Thanks!

Steve

edit: This is an OEM processor, so there's no instructions or drivers or anything, do I need to update drivers?

Yup take the old one out and install the new one, just like you did the first time...

I may have answered my own question, a little more searching revealed a basic but helpful article on pcworld. Of course, other tips and suggested by the "real guru's" are welcome!

Thanks

As long as the board supports the new CPU you are good to go. If not you probably can flash the BIOS to get it to.

Also double check and make sure the CPU heatsink & fan you have can handle the new CPU.

Otherwise... looks like your all set to go.
