PC wont power up
I have a Lian Li 6070 plus case. This morning I tried to turn on my PC . The blue power light stays on. The red Hard drive light flashes for a fraction of a second then goes off. It will not power up. It was working fine last night and I have had no storms or power outages. If the problem could be the switch, can I jump start from the motherboard? Please give instructions for doing so.

You can jump start from the motherboard, but I would strongly suggest as part of the process you build the core components out of the case:
http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=132409 This is the only reliable method to confirm that they're working correctly. Can you also give us your full system specs?

Wont Start
I have tried jumping the power switch leads-[2 reds], and still get nothing. After taking the side cover off to do this, I did notice the CPU fan move about a quarter of an inch when I pressed the power switch. I have a solid green LED burning on the motherboard. This build is less than a year old and was working fine until this morning when I tried tro power-up. I have not cracked the case to add or change anything before this happened. If I could not start by jumping the power leads , could I have a defective motherboard?

Sounds to me like you have somthing shorting out, I had that problem (fan twitching mobo LED on but no action) I don't know what would have shorted after a year though.
But like FK said try the out of case setup, have you done that yet?

At this point, you really need to perform the out-of-case build. It rules out any potential short that's occurred between the system and the case (unlikely in an 'existing' system - but possible), and allows you to better identify a component that's potentially gone south.

Since this PC was working fine the night before and for nearly a year without any recent changes, it sounds more like a part failure, not a short. Before I disassemble, if this is strictly a power-up issue what components could/would prevent a pc from just starting? Would a defective power supply cause this problem and how do you check the power supply? Or could I have a defective motherboard?

I agree that it sounds like a part failure. The most likely culprit in a situation where the system will not even start is the Power Supply - yours is a quality unit but all are capable of failure. The best way to test if this is the case, is to substitute in a known working power supply.
ANY parts substitutions that I do are performed with the system built out of the case. |

I have just swapped out the power supply for a brand new XCLIO that I was going to use for another PC. I have the same problem. What would the next best component culprit to diagnose? If I do remove the components from the case as suggested, what are the bare bones to start back with? Is there a certain order to start plugging things back in?

If you do the "outside of the case" build test... the only components you should have installed are the basics.
Motherboard, processor, one stick of memory, video card, and PSU. Check the motherboard for any sign of damage such as markings and bulging or leaking capacitators. Also check to see if there is anything shorting out the motherboard for some reason. |

After some more trouble-shooting and Intel tech support help, I found out I do have a defective motherboard. After unplugging all memory and video, and after unplugging all electrical and battery. the motherboard did not respond with any beeps after restarting. New one on the way-- Thanks for all your time and help.
