upgrading gaming comp signature

I was thinking of upgrading my current computer.(signature) I play games and I was looking into a dual core processor as mine is a single core. I have decided to go with the Am2 socket set as mine is 939 and it seems hard to find cpu's for the 939 cocket set. Atleast ones that are compirable to the AM2. I realize I will need to get new ram (ddr800) as that is what is required from the mobos i was looking at. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103773 that is neweggs combo deal for the cpu and mobo I was looking at. If I sawp out my mobo, cpu, ram for this one what all will i need to do> Update drivers? Reinstalll windows? ect? Also, what are your thoughts on the cpu and mobo I have picked out. Are there better deals you are aware of? Thanks!

Is SLI a requirement? Otherwise, save some cash and buy the 6000+ and the Asus M2N-E.

Also, if you really want to save money and give some more life to your system, look at an Opteron 939. Most 939 boards support them, and Newgg still has them. The 170 model is a good choice.

Is the AM2 the newest socket set out for AMD because I noticed Socket F. I stopped paying attention until recently. SLI isnt' a requirement so I think one 16x-express slot will do. Is intel core 2 duo that much better. I noticed they are cheaper! What problems would it cause to switch from AMD to Core2 Duo with my OS and other components. I like AMD better, but if it is going to save me a couple hundred bucks then I think I could swallow it.

Core 2 Duo is pretty much most people suggestion right now.
All you would need to change would be the Mobo.

How does this look:

CPU:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115003
$227

MOBO:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131070
$147

I know its a bit more than what you looking to spend...but I think you will really enjoy the improvement...here is another, cheaper, suggestion:

CPU:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115013
$114

MOBO:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131032
$98

I really suggest that you spend the little bit extra, but one way or the other, the Core 2 Duo is better.

I was thinking about somewhere in the 500 dollar range with cpu, mobo, ram. So if i switch out mobo ram cpu then all i have to do is start up the comp and it will work without reinstalling windows ect?

You'll probably have to do a windows repair install to accommodate the new motherboard. (Unless something goes wrong, you won't lose any data doing that)
