opinion on my parts

Hey I just built a PC that has a celeron d 2.6 cpu and evga 7300gt gpu (was on a tight budget). What is your opinion on this combination? What can I do to improve gaming speeds (currently playing Simscity 4 and half-life 1)?

more info: ram 512, windows xp, evga 7300gt, asus p5l-vm 1394 mobo.

How much RAM does the machine have? Adding more is always a way to add performance. For gaming, you're limited by that card though.

Add another stick of 512mb so you can have 1GB total.

Make sure you get the exact same stick as your original so you can take advantage of the small speed boost from running the memory in dual channel mode.

In the future you can upgrade the video card and replace the Celeron with a Core 2 Duo for added performance.

I agree RAM is the way to go right off the bat. You will see a marked difference if you move it up to 1 GB.

After that I would probably look at a 7600s or X-1650s for a video card. Both can be found for under $100 and they both would be a huge upgrade for your system. Both also play most games out there very nicely.

At that point, if you still want to upgrade I would look at getting a new C2D CPU. Prices are suppose to drop for these again in the thrid quarter which will make them even more attractive.

Personally i would go with the ATI card (256-bit Memory vs 128-bit and 24 PixelPipelines vs 12), the only thing is i dont know much about the manufacture connect3D .
