My RMA item is discontinued - is this a fair trade?

I sent in my gskill ram for rma as Panama Red tested it and said it was most likely defective. The defective ram was "G.SKILL 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 550 (PC 4400) Samsung TCCD Dual Channel Kit System Memory Model F1-3200DSU2-1GBLC - Retail"

I just received an email from Gskill saying they no longer have that item, but would replace it with"2GB F1-3200PHU2-2GBNS" which is 2gb of pc3200 " G.SKILL 2GB (2 x 1GB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 (PC 3200) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail"

I paid $240 for the 1GB set that was sent back in, and from newegg, the replacement is only $140 on their site.

There is no link to what I sent in, as again it is discontinued. But below is a link to what they want to replace it with.

I dont think its a fair replacement because like I said, I paid $240 .. but then again this will be 2 Gb and not 1GB. And if it matters, I do not intend to overclock this system anymore. Just want it to run todays' games with no problems.

If your board supports only PC 4400 then no PC3200 it is not a good replacement.. Check you MB manual to see what speed of ram it does support.. If you need PC4400 then I would go with Corsair, Crucial and forget the G Skill..

It sounds like a good deal to me.

If you think about it. If you bought the 2GB memory modules back when you bought the 1GB set... the price would have been doubled.

PC3200 looks like the max that your motherboard would take anyways. So the original PC4400 would have been bottlenecked to running at only PC3200.
