building

Hello. I have a thermaltake soprano case, which I am going to use as the basis of my new gaming computer. I do own an AM2NF3-VSTA motherboard which I could use, or a could purchase another. I do not need a mouse, keyboard, speakers or monitor, and have around £700 to spare. I would like to make a decent enough pc so that I don't need to be upgrading it every so often. Any suggestions/ideas would be valuable. Thanks in advance..
)also looking to use amd).

Here is your board specs from ASROCK, buy parts based on what you need and what the board will require..

Here is a quick list of parts to start you off.. No need for sound card as the board has onboard sound...

Thanks. I am more than happy to purchase a new motherboard if it means I can buy better quality parts to use. If anyone can suggest a good motherboard - price doesnt matter.

Go with an ASUS motherboard... it is what most of us here recommend.

Depends on what platform you want to go with... Socket 939 or Socket AM2 for AMD processors.

Socket 939 I would go with this:

Socket AM2 I would go with this:

As for the video card...go with PCI-E video cards... EVGA makes great ones... the model really depends on what you plan on using the computer for mainly.

As for memory... it will be DDR2-800 if you go with the AM2 board... the Corsair XMS2 lineup is recommended... 1GB and above is the recommended amount for builds these days. If you go with the Socket 939 board I recommended it will be DDR-400.

As for HDDs... go with Western Digital or Seagate... SATA 3.0Gb/s interface drives.

Well, I'm planning to go with amd, and use the pc mainly for gaming - so I would prefereably want a dx10 supporting card, even if I have to wait a little while.

Minsonngo, looks like the OP is working in GBP, Newegg isn't much use to him unfortunately!

ntech - you can build a pretty decent gaming system for £700. Are you completely set on AMD - Intel's C2D chips are most certainly the highest performers out there at the moment. I've put together this suggested list for you at www.overclockers.co.uk

http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a1...0Mech/spec.jpg

In under the budget, but lacking a case and an operating system - which are likely to push you over £700. To offset this, you could go for a lower powered video card as a 'placeholder' until the full range of DX v10 video cards have been released, and then upgrade. A 7600GS/GT would be ideal for this use.

Oops, just noticed that you mentioned the case in your first post, sorry about that. Could I request that you add your location into your profile, so that our members know to give you UK vendor links? Thanks.
