Question Trying to build a computer for gaming please help

Hello, i am trying to build myself a new gaming computer. My budget is $1000-$1600(tax and shipping included). All i need is the computer no extras(except a good headset) like monoter keyboards mice etc.
I would also like to order all of the parts form New Egg becuase i know it is a reliable and cheap source. Please help me, I want a gaming computer in the budget range of $1000-$1600(tax and shipping included).

AMD or INTEL?

And please don't use colored, bold or larger type...it's really hard to read. Thanks.

I'd recommend looking at an Intel based system. The Core 2 Duo's outperform anything from AMD right now, and AMD is transitioning to a new socket not too long from now. That being said, here is a list to get you started.

Asus M2N-E motherboard
Athlon X2 6000+
2GB DDR2-800 Corsair XMS RAM
eVGA 8800GTS 320MB Video Card
Seagate 320GB 7200.10 SATA Hard drive.
LiteOn SATA DVD Burner - Retail
Any case you like
Corsair 520HX Power supply.

That comes out to around $1200.

The best bang for the buck in monitors are 22" LCDs that are under $300 right now. Samsung is a great choice. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824001083

If you are interested in Intel, keep my above list and swap the CPU/Motherboard/RAM with:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
Asus P5B Motherboard
2GB Corsair DDR2-667

Will be right about the same price.

Alaron has given you good ideas for your parts selection. Either system would build into a really nice gaming rig.

Personally I would use WinXP for now and then upgrade to Vista after the first or second Service Pack is released. WinXP is a proven OS and has had time to mature into a very solid platform. Vista is brand new and there are still a lot of bugs and driver issues to work out.

The parts list that Alaron gave you in post #6 is better.

I don't see a power supply in your list. Which one were you going to get?

RaidMax PSUs are junk, don't use them. Keep the case if you want, but please replace the PSU. The Corsair I suggested is particularly good quality and a great match for the 8800 video cards. If you need to trim the budget, the PSU is never the place to do it.

Alaron PSU choice is top notch.. Buying a low quality PSU can damage your whole system and cost you $$$$. Here is a guide of good and bad psu.. The bold ones listed in good are for high performance PC, such as the one your planning on building..

The Apevia cases use Turbolink PSUs... those are bad brand PSUs also.

Antec is pretty much the only company that provides good PSUs with their cases.

It would be better if you get a case and PSU seperately.

Apevia power supplies are rubbish. Get the case and power supply separately. Power supply information can be found here.

Not bad. Although you probably dont need that much power and the PSU is quite pricey.

Here is what I would suggest: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139001

Psu

That PSU only has 520w for $125

the PSU i had was 720w for $179
for 200 extra wats dont u think thats a good price only a 40 doller bump

Also my price range as i said was 1000-1500 and the build ATM is only 1000 so i thinhk i can deal with the 40 extra bucks

isent the OZC better deal and a better product?

Both are reputable brands with proven reliability.

I guess in the end... it is your choice. You can't go wrong with either one.

I beg to differ with the opinion that included psu's are crap. I bought an Antec Fusion Media Center case with an included 430 watt psu. Works like a charm. Has pci express cable, 2 sata, and molex connectors out the wazoo...

We never said that ALL PSUs included with cases are bad. See my previous post:

I think it all depends on what you find on the market. I bought a case with PSU, but have since found out the PSU is junk. I now have another PSU I will be buying for my build. The price was right for the case I bought, so I am not concerned if I need to buy another PSU for it.

Psu and case separate would best suit your needs. FYI the Corsair is much cheaper at www.zipzoomfly.com and has free shipping.

The Evostream series are a notch above OCZ/FSP's usual offerings. Either one is a good chioce.
