Multiple Monitor Build
I am planning my first build with 2 monitors. I want to be able to expand to 3 down the line if I want. I was planning to purchase this motherboard and graphics card.
ASUS P5B LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail XFX PVT73GUGF3 GeForce 7600GT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail The motherboard has 1 PCI Express x16. Should I look for a board with 2 PCI Express x16 slots and if so which board do you recommend. Thanks. |

f you want to do 3, yes you'll want two PCI-E slots. PCI video cards are getting tricky to find.

Newegg has 53 PCI video cards Staren.
![]() mroosa, I've got a triple monitor setup myself, using a PCI-E card for two screens and a PCI for the third. Works perfectly.

You don't notice any difference in the monitors? Is the card from the same manufacturer?

motherboard
If I did want a motherboard that would support 2 pci x16 video cards, which would you recommend? Would I be wasting money? Could I use 1 pci x16 and 1 pci and have the monitors look pretty much the same?

Using 1 PCI and 1 PCI Express the two monitors will look the same........the pci card won't be able to play games, but that's what you've got the other card and monitor for :-)
In my opinion, the added cost in terms of motherboard, powersupply and video cards to support dual PCI Express just isn't worth it.

programming
I'm a programmer and it makes it nice to be able to program on one monitor while debugging on another monitor while having email/im/ sql server up on a third monitor. Just makes my job easier.

It helps a lot as a grad student as well. I can have a paper open full screen on one monitor while having research open on another so I can write and look up citation without flipping between tabs. It's also handy for the minimal web design and video work I do for my department. Having the actual work open full screen and the tools on another monitor just makes getting things done a lot easier.
