New build...thrilled?

Ok, here's my parts list for a planned new build. I haven't listed any CD/DVD drives because, quite frankly, I don't know what kind I should get/need, what specs I should look for. Any suggestions helpful, and any comments/problems on the list would be great.

- ASUS TA770 – Vento 7700 Black/Blue Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

- Intel BOXDG965OTMKR LGA 775 Intel G965 Express Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

- EVGA 640-P2-N821-AR GeForce 8800GTS 640MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Video Card

- Antec earthwatts EA500 ATX12V v2.0 500W Power Supply

- Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6600

- Kingston HyperX 8GB(4 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model

- Maxtor Ultra 16 L01F500 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

- Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Elite 7.1 Channels PCI Interface Sound Card

total price of listed items is $2,097.92. Anything I missed? Any suggestions/comments/problems?

Is there a reason why your going with a microATX board? The case you picked supports ATX boards also.

Also is there a reason you need 8GB of memory? The OS have limits to how much system memory it can support also. Look at the limitations here: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-gb/library/aa366778.aspx

For optical drives go with Lite-On and get the newer SATA interface drives.

just thought "the board holds 8 GB. . . why not get 8 GB?"

is that completely unnecessary?

and I actually didn't notice that I had chosen a micro ATX board, looking for replacement as we speak.

1 to 2 GB of system memory is more than enough in most cases.

Since you're using a Intel motherboard you won't be able to overclock and you really don't need DDR2 800 RAM, DDR2 667 will work fine. And I wouldn't get Kingston RAM (seen too many failures in the past) I'd use 2GB of Corsair ValueSelect RAM. Been installing Corsair VS RAM in all the computers I built for the past 4 years or so and haven't had one stick go bad yet.

And please use the Edit button to edit your previous posts instead of making new ones.

O, important time for me to speak up. I'm using this motherboard in my new build. So we're board mates! But you should take into conscideration that this board doesn't take 2 gb sticks of DDR2-800. It only takes 1 gb sticks. But 2 gb sticks at 677. Still, DDR2-800 is clocked faster, so if you must be bleeding edge...But, another thing is intel doesn't even SUPPORT 1 gbb DDR2-800 in this board. So 2 gb won't work and 1 gb isn't supported. I'm doing my build this weekend using 1 gb stick of DDR2-800 and I'll tell you how it goes. But other than that this board does everything. EXCELLENT documentation. Detailed diagrams of front panel connectors, and every possible included accessory. Also, a Vento can hold an ATX board. I only got this board because I was building in the Antec Fusion.(beautiful, beautiful, case) If you go with the other suggested motherboard, take not that it is the same chipset. The memory issues still apply. Good luck

Acually DDR2-800 memory supporting JEDEC approved 1.8V operation with timings of 5-5-5 or 6-6-6 is supported on Intel Desktop Boards based on 965 Express Chipsets.

Yeah, just not 2 gb Well I could be mistaken. But this unfortunate pieve of paper was included with my motherboard:

I had a feeling, which is why I figured I'd try the memory I bought anyways. I spent so long online trying ot find out the difference to no avail. Thanks so much! You managed to clear up the one thing that was bothering me about this build. I quite like you.
