CPU Over Voltage Error!
I'm sure many people have come across this error before so I'll just ask again.
I've just built a new computer (see signature for setup) and I can format my harddrive and get most of the way through the Windows XP setup before I get a AMI screen that says "CPU Over Voltage Error!" F1 to Resume. Now the error is coming from the BIOS I know this much but not much more after that. I have the most current version of the BIOS so that can't be the problem, anyone have any ideas? f.y.i. - not sure if it matters but im using and 80 gig harddrive and a dvdrom off my old computer but everything else is new. also its not in my sig but I got 2 x 1 GB RAM DDR2 800 |

Do you have the AUTO Overclocking feature enabled? If so... DISABLE it.
You need to stick to the stock voltage settings. |

I'm not sure would I be able to find this out in the BIOS? Thanks for the help fellow Houstonian!

It will be in there just poke around in the BIOS setup for it. Not sure if your particular board has the feature.
Or see if you can reset the BIOS settings to the DEFAULT and see if that works. Last edited by minsonngo; 05-10-2007 at 12:15 PM. |

Ok, now that I'm at home and off work and can check my comp I can give you a little more info.
My mobo is runnign AMIBIOS Version 1102 I dont have an option for AUTO Overclocking, but under the power tab in my BIOS i have these options and setting set Suspend [Auto] Repost Video on S3 Reserve [Disabled] ACPI 2.0 Support [Disabled] ACPI APIC Support [Disabled] Now I went to my Hardware monitor and it gave me these temps CPU Temp - 72*C Mobo Temp - 33*C and it gave me these power readings VCORE Voltage [1.096V] this one was flashing red. 3.3v Volt [3.216V] 5v Voltage [5.068V] 12v Voltage [12.249V] I dont know much about CPU temps but is that high? and it seems whatever the VCORE is tahts where my power problem is coming from. |

Looks like your VCORE Voltage should be in this range: 1.100V-1.372V
http://processorfinder.intel.com/det...x?sSpec=SL9UM# You CPU temps look high too... not sure what are the normal temps for the Quad Core line of processors... maybe someone with knowledge on this can input. Do you have the heatsink and fan installed correctly? Did you try setting the BIOS settings to DEFAULT yet? I had the a friend with the same problem... he exchanged the board... and everything was fine after that. Thats all he told me... not sure if he fixed anything else. I'm 99% sure I install the chip and heatsink correctly, and I reset the defaults in the BIOS, but its even taking like 30 seconds just to bring up my hardware scan menu. Your friend returned the motherboard for a new one and everything was ok? What if I turn VCORE to ingore would that solve anything?

What are the options for VCORE? I don't know if I would change it to Ignore. Anyone else have any ideas? |

Make sure you turn the top of the retention pins in the opposite direction of the arrows that are on top. The arrows show the direction to rotate the pins when you want to remove the hsf assy. Turn them all the opposite direction and support the bottom of the mobo when you push the pins into the lock position.
