Do you have the optical drive set in the BIOS setup as the FIRST boot device?
If not... go ahead and do that... save your changes... pop in the OS cd... reboot and boot from the CD drive to start the OS installation. |

What OS are you trying to install? Is it a valid copy of the OS?
Do you know if the CD drives are working? Have you tried another IDE cable? What do you have the CD drive jumpered as? How about the HDD? |

Not sure if this is related to your boot issue... but the power supply is a very cheap brand with generally a bad track record. I would swap that out ASAP with a quality unit from this list: What Power Supply should I get? How many Watts? Who made it? Guide Inside
PC Chip motherboards are also on the unreliable side. |

What do you have the HDD and CD drive jumpered as? Is the HDD and CD on the same IDE cable?
Are you using the 40 pin 40 wire cable OR 40 pin 80 wire cable? Try using another IDE cable to confirm the original cable is not bad. Last edited by minsonngo; 05-14-2007 at 08:59 PM. |

Go over the PC Chips motherboard manual and make sure the motherboard has been set up properly. I think I heard PC Chips ships their motherboards with the CLEAR CMOS jumper in the CLEAR position, not the NORMAL position.
Also make sure you only have 1 hard drive and 1 optical drive connected while you install the OS. Remove any other non-essential component not necessary to the OS installation process. Make sure the drives are jumpered properly for the type of cable you're using? What brand RAM are you using? Is it compatible with that motherboard? Cricket

How are the jumpers on your drives set?
Check them and tell us what cable you're using (the 80 wire is smooth when compared to the 40 wire.) for the optical drives (cd-rom drives). |

We are trying to find out what are the jumpers settings on the HARD DRIVE and CD DRIVE itself. Not your motherboard. Do you have your HARD DRIVE and CD DRIVES set to MASTER, SLAVE, CABLE SELECT, or what? |

Normal Setting is the place to leave the CMOS jumper.
For the IDE cable(80wire), the standard jumper setting is CS(cable select), blue connector to the mobo, the black or end connector is the master position and the gray or middle is the slave position. check in the BIOS for DMA setting and try in AUTO.

When you go into the BIOS setup... are both the HDD and CD drive detected?

The jumper positions are silk screened on the ends of the drives where the power and cable connectors are.
Pull the drives and check them use the photo here for reference : http://www.pchell.com/hardware/maste...leselect.shtml |

If you only have one optical drive, try setting it to cable select.. If all else fails then rma the board.. Better yet spend the extra and get a quality board....
