Couple of issues
Ok, so everything installed and built but now just having a couple of configuration issues.
#1. I have no sound. I'm just using Logitech speakers plugged into the front AC97 slot. When I go to Sounds in control panel, it says I have no audio devices. Please help. #2. I have 3 ? in my hardware device drivers. How do I figure out what they are? #3. In my bios, it says my cpu temp is 41C. When I download and try to run coretemp my pc reboots right away. Do I have a problem? Thanks. |

1 and 2 are probably related. You need to install drivers for your soundcard (drivers should be on your motherboard cd) and your network card. Also, install chipset drivers off of the cd that came with the motherboard.
3 What kind of CPU is it? What motherboard? CoreTemp can cause abrupt crashes by itself...Mr.Ferrari recommends an alternative, but I've got to do some searching to find out what that program was called.... *EDIT* Found something that might help: according to this post, someone with a similar issue says that an older version of CoreTemp worked fine, while the newer one caused crashing: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.p...=CoreTemp+BSOD Also, go into My Computer => Properties =>Advanced =>Startup and recovery and disable automatic reboot on system failure.

Wha? Ok, back up a second. What version of Windows, and can you give us a full list of the parts you're using?

While it was booting I went into bios and put hard drive as boot device and system came up. I guess it was maybe trying to boot off the cd from asus. So I guess I reinstalled Windows earlier for nothing.

It happens. I know I reinstalled at least once 'cause I pulled a driver disk out of the FDD before XP had a chance to load it.
It's all part of the fun of learning

I should have caught this thread easier. The motherboard driver CDs arn't boot CDs. They're ment tp be run from in Windows. I'm pretty sure the fact that the CD was still the first boot device was what messed you up there. Oh well. One of those things you need to learn the hard way once.

Yes, I'm sure that's exactly what it was. I just wish I would have posted before I re-installed windows. No biggie. It's humming along now. Need to check out usb ports and playing a dvd but that's about it.
