computer wont power down

i have just built a computer and installed windows when i turn off the computer with the shut computer down option the windows xp shuts down but the computer doesnt power down i.e the cpu fan and case fan are still runnin plus the case lights are still on. the specs are ASROCK 775 i945GZ mobo, ANTEC SONATA 2 case with built in 450w PSU, 1gb ddr2 crucial ram, 1.8ghz CORE 2 DUO cpu and a maxtor 250 gb sata 2 hard drive. the computer works fine it just wont power down???? can some one please help

So Windows does shut down but the fans and case lights are still going? No image on the monitor?

Problem could either be the motherboard or the power supply. You might want to try clearing the CMOS...instructions should be in the ASRock motherboard manual.

yeah the monitor is off the only sign is that the lights are still on and case and cpu fan still spinning. ill try that and report back

ive cleared coms and nothin has changed check that cmos had been cleared in bios so i know it cleared. tried another power supply and still the same do u think the problem lies with the mobo? could it be somethin to do with the front panel connectors on te mobo?

Try stripping the system down by removing non-essential items (optical drives, use just 1 stick of RAM, unplug all peripherals) and then see if the system will power down completely.

Did you try holding the power button in a few seconds when the system fails to completely shut down?

yes the computer power downs that way that is how ive been havin to turn it off. im only usin one stick off ram. ill try disconectin the optical drives to see if that helps?

ive just tried unpluggin the optical drives and still wont power down any ideas? as this has really got me puzzled
