continous tone on PC speaker

Got my new build up and running, Everything seems fine, I got XP loaded, etc.

One question...

Computer speaker continuously beeps (non-stop tone) all the while the computer is running. I unplugged it.

Any ideas?

Just curious, I assume you mean the case speaker and not your soundcard speakers? I haven't seen it often but when I have it is normally due to the speaker connector on the wrong header. I've seen a lot of motherboard manuals show the wrong hookups so I would doublecheck online to see if there is a manual update.

You motherboard has as few features that can be causing your issue... are you sure it is not one of these?

CPU Warning Temperature

CPU Fan Fail Warning

System Fan Fail Warning

Power Fan Fail Warning

You can go into your BIOS setup... under PC Health Status... you can disable or enable those features... check and see if you have any of them enabled.

This is my first post with the new system. YES!

Yes, it is the system speaker (beeper) not the sound card.

I'll have to do some more checking. It is still doing it, so I have it unplugged.

It didn't do it when I first booted, but has since I started loading XP.

I'm just getting the bios software loaded so that I can check system temps easily, etc., so I'll check to see if there are any warnings. Everything seems to be fine, however.

Ok, my PC health screen on the bios monitering software is showing that my CPU fan isn't running at all. That is probably the cause of the buzz.

Any suggestions on how to get it running? Doesn't seem to turn on.

Arctic Cooler Pro 7 plugged into the MB CPU fan port.

Edit:

Just for kicks, I tried plugging it into the NB fan port. It started up and ran immediately.

Good... it was just the CPU Fan Fail Warning feature on your motherboard then... glad you got it working!

Well...

Not exactly working, the buzz is still there, but I did manage to get my CPU fan to spin when plugged into the North Bridge fan port.

There is still something amiss...

So is it a buzz or a beep?

Sort of a constant beep, so it sounds like a buzz.

After a bit of running the CPU fan on the NB fan terminal, I got a new high/low tone, and my bios info window was showing a warning on both system temp and CPU temps, even though neither was high (like 41 on system temp and 22 on CPU).

I'm not sure what is going on -- no over clock or anything (yet)...

I did an update on the bios (one was available) that may do something but I'm not sure what the actual problem is.

Everything in the system is cool to the touch except the NB and RAM. Ram is probably around 40-45 (can touch but not hold for long) and the NB is hotter, probably 48-50.

Any guesses? CPU fan works, but is it possible the feedback control isn't working? The NB port has 3 wires, the CPU port has 4.

I think is the other way around... 41 CPU temps and 22 system temps... but those temps are still good...

Have you tried just disabling the warning features in the BIOS?

That could be the why.

Plug it into the CPU fan power connector on the motherboard.

Here is how (scroll to the bottom of the page): http://www.arctic-cooling.com/cpu2.p...9&data=6&disc=

Thanks... I disabled the alarm.

The temps are what are reported by my bios...

I know from touching stuff inside the case that the RAM and NB are hotter than the CPU, which is almost cool to the touch. I'll try to get you a screen shot as soon as I get some software loaded in that will allow me to manipulate a pic for uploading.

But, you are probably correct in the RPM thing - they are running at low RPMs. I just need to figure out where to make the change in my bios. (gigabyte 965P-DS3 w/ Award bios version 10)

Edit:

Holy Crap... Just installed Office XP in like 30 seconds.

Anyway, here is a link to a screen shot of my bios screen (windows version).

Are you sure your HSF is installed right?

Here are the instructions if you need them: http://www.arctic-cooling.com/downlo...eezer7_pro.pdf

My heat sink fan is installed so that the A/C label is sideways. I'll have to see if I can make it straight up and down. That might make a difference according to those directions. (I didn't get directions as I purchased a used unit via eBay.)

Update...

Still not working exactly right. I'm still getting an alarm for both the system fan and the CPU fan, even though both are cool and the fans are running.

I have a question about the Award Bios that comes with the Gigabyte DS3 MB (version 10).

What do I set my fan controls at in the bios screen for PC health?

The are several choices: auto, legacy, Intel control, and another one, that I can't remember right now.

Then, on the next line, there are mode choices: auto, VPM, or Voltage.

Which do I select, and why?

I'm not at home right now, so I can't give a screen shot or read the actual bios. If that would be helpful, I'll post that up later this afternood when I get home.

I would just leave it as AUTO...
