New Build....need help with graphics card/PSU
Hello all...so I have decided to finally build my own PC after buying multiple computers from Dell that are now collecting dust in my basement. I am in need of some help concerning the graphics card and PSU. I am not a gamer at all, and primarily use the computer for work/music/basic internet stuff, but I am planning on turning this into a HTPC in the near future. From what I have gathered from this forum, here is what I am thinking so far for parts:
MOBO --------- ASUS P5B LGA 775 CPU --------- Intel C2D E6420 MEMORY ----- (2x) Corsair Valueselect 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2-667 (might be overkill, but programs I use such as MATLAB/FEMLAB require lots of memory) HDD ----------- (2x) Seagate Barracuda 160GB 7200 SATA (one for OS, one for media/programs) OPTICAL ----- Lite-On 20x DVD+R SATA CASE ---------- Cooler Master Cavalier 3 CAV-T03-UK My question concerns the graphics card and power supply. I know the the PSU depends highly on which graphics card I have. I will spend for whatever will get the job done but I do not want to over-do it with a high-end gaming card that uses a ton of power. I simply want something that will work well with any tv tuner card and cooperate with a big-screen TV with a DVI input. Any suggestions/comments/complaints would be MUCH appreciated. Thank you in advance, and sorry to those who do not approve of the length/format of this post....i am new to this. cheers, T |

This card is good and can handle some gaming too.

forgot to add this in the original post....but what are the benefits/drawbacks of using SLI? I see that the GPU you picked is SLI capable, but didn't know how that affects the rest of the config.

You can read all about it here.
http://www.slizone.com/page/slizone_learn.html http://www.slizone.com/page/slizone_faq.html#g1 In general... most people (me being one of them) don't recommned it. One good video card is more than enough. The cost versus performance ratio for a SLI setup is not worth it at all. |
