Starting New Build

Hiya, Im new on these forums, I joined because I would like to Make my own PC.
The Pc I would like to make is going to be used for hardcore gaming, I dont have a total budget as the Pc is going to be built over a period of time meaning i can get things when i can.

Firstly I read the equipment guide on the sites main page, i noticed it cant be everything you need as you need a graphics card. So if you could be so kind to put a list here of everything i iwll need to make a good gaming pc, and maybe what model i should get. Thta mould be most helpful.

Secondly I know I need a Tower Case, but how much watts will i need for gaming pc, and does it matter which one i get, do they all fit the same amount of components in them?

Many Thanks,
Harry Mills

My list pretty much includes what most people will put in their systems.

All you need is the operating system CD you want to use (Windows XP, Windows Vista, etc.), a monitor, a keyboard, and mouse, speakers, and that would be pretty much it.

thankyou and also, I was thinking about getting gaming keyboard.
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/98761/...rb/28115495668
but it is USB and there is only 2 usb's on front is that a big disadvantage? they are also not hi-speed
2 more questions.
will I need extra Fans?
Can I add better sound card even if motherboard has one?

Thankyou very much,
Harry

The motherboard (ASUS P5B) has four USB 2.0 ports in the back... that should be more than enough. You can also hook up the two USB ports available on the front of the case to the motherboard and have six USB ports total.

The Antec Nine Hundred case you picked out already comes with three 120mm fans... you don't need any more.

You can add a sound card... but the onboard one is more than adequate... invest your money in a good set of speakers instead.

Nope. It just gives you more headroom for upgrades in the future.

512MB of video card memory is, of course, better than 256MB - but you'd only really see the benefit if you were running demanding games on very high resolutions - above 1280x1024.

The 8600GTS has the added benefit of being Direct X 10 capable.

The HDD I picked is a 320GB... it says so right there on the page.

And Freakitchen already answered your video card question.

The 8800 lineup of video cards are very popular right now... pick one for this list that is within your budget: http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/searc...olShowAll=true

Yes it is compatible.

The 8600GTS is a decent card... if you want better... go with the 8800 lineup from eVGA... I noticed that many of them are out of stock now on the link I gave you... if you want a model that is out of stock on the eVGA page and you don't want to wait or buy from somewhere else... BFG is another decent brand to look for: http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/searc...olShowAll=true

Everything you need will be included with your case and your motherboard.

Your setup will run the games pretty well.

Harry you need to give people time to reply. This isn't a chatroom. Most of us only check in here a few times a day. In response to your question about HDCP, that's for new HD media like HDDVD and Blu-Ray. As of right now there isn't much use for it, but if you want to be ready for the future what you'll need is an HDCP monitor. You don't need one for most computer use.

You *might* need an HDCP monitor in the future. It's all up in the air right now, but as of right now you don't need to worry about it.
