Quad Core build

I'm looking to upgrade my computer, a big upgrade at that. My current specs are in Signature. I would like to try out the new Quad Core, and this build will be for serious gaming, net surfing, college work (mostly files, with a bunch of windows open at once), and things of that nature. I have monitor, everything else I will need, along with OS, which I'm thinking Vista here.

CASE: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811119122
MOBO: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131074
CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115017
RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145034
VGA: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130071
HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136011
HEATSINK: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835118019
PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817341002
DVD/CD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106057
MOUSE: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16826104178
KEYBOARD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16823175103
VISTA: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116202

I think thats everything, let me know if I'm missing anything. I don't need floppy drive, and I decided not to go with a sound card because that Motherboard has 8 channel sound already, and I'm not HUGE on sound. I never used that brand PSU, and I'm not too sure how good that board is. I just want to know what you guys think, and if it will all work together. No I don't plan to go SLI by the way, but if I did I think I would be ready for it correct?

Thanks, Mike.

Looks like a nice build to me.

The processor you are getting already comes with a heatsink and fan... so you don't need a aftermarket one like you have there. Using the stock one also allows you to keep the warranty on the CPU intact.

The OCZ PSU is fine. The Corsair PSUs are what we commonly recommend... but the OCZ is still a good brand.

The motherboard you picked out is good... kind of pricey... but its your choice. I would have stuck with the P5B lineup since they support the Quad Cores too... but nevertheless... the one you picked out is a good one too.

I would personally go for a P5N32-E SLi and save some cash..

IMO, that case is a bit overpriced, but totally your choice.

I would rather get some high density 7200.10's from Seagate rather then the Raptor. The Speed difference is negligible most of the time.

I would recommend the Silverstone ST75ZF as the choice if you are planning the PSU for SLI with 8800's. If your sticking to single, get a Corsair HX 520W from Zipzoomfly for $95 w/free shipping.

I would still wait until SP1 comes out for Vista before recommending it, but if you want it, go for it.

Can you link me to these items you recommend?

I'm still looking at different motherboards. Why would you recommend the Silverstone over the OCZ? Any word on when SP1 will be out for Vista? I don't have Vista atm, but hows it running for everyone?

Are you planning on buying another identical video card in the future and set both video cards up for SLI mode in the future?

If not... those PSUs are overkill.

Go with this instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139001

Vista has been fine for me on my test build so far. Had it for about 1 month now.

Maybe. I'm not going to say yes or no on that subject.

Its not really worth it since by the time you get the second video card to run SLI mode... your better off going with a single newer model video card that will perform equally or even better.

True. Yeah, probably will just stick with one video card. So go with a less powerful PSU then?

Yes -the corsair- and you could also drop down to a cheaper P965 mobo if you so wish. Probably cut the cost near half.

Yep you can go with the Corsair as Mr. Ferrari and I suggested here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139001

or this Antec Earthwatts model which is also good: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371007
