Something happened while building

I was on step 17. of the build a computer. and I had everything plugged in from the atx power supply.

so everything went on fine cept the monitor gave me a no connection from input error.fans on everything

so then i looked around and someone said i mighta missed a 8 pin connection. so i went out and bought a 4 to 8 pin. converter cable and.. connected it.

next thing i know the computer wont turn on.
the little power light is on, in the motherboard. but the fans dont even turn on

i took out the 8 pin connection to see if anything wud work again.. and nothing did

What is the exact model of that power supply? A link is helpful. I suspect it is not up to par.

That could very well be the problem. Turbolink power supplies are junk.

Check out our thread on power supplies for a quality replacement: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=131195

You need an ATX 2.0 compliant psu.

Do the outside of the case build... leave only the the Antec power supply, motherboard, video card, ONE stick of memory, processor, and processor heatsink & fan installed and see if it will power on. You can short the two power pins on the mobo using a screwdriver.

Also.... you need a ATX 2.x (x can be any number) power supply... it should have a 24 pin main PSU connector and a 4 or 8 pin ATX12V connector.

Do you have the brass standoffs between the case and motherboard. If not... the motherboard could be shorted out by the case.

Turbolink PSUs are pretty bad... not sure if it killed any of your components...

Right now you need to take the motherboard out of the case... place it on a non-conductive surface like a wooden table or a card board box... then you only leave the essentials installed as stated in my previous post to troubleshoot the system. This way... if the problem still exists... you know it is one or more of the main components is faulty.

Also... for the 8-pin ATX12V connector on the motherboard...

You first need a ATX 2.x (x can be any number) power supply with the 24-pin connector AND the 4 or 8 pin ATX12V connector.

***IF the power supply only has a 4 pin ATX12V connector... connect the square plug from the power supply into pins 1, 2, 5, & 6 on the 8 pin connector on the motherboard. See here for a picture: http://www.hi-upload.com/upload/uplo...in_diagram.JPG

alright after playing around with the out of case set up. i found that the light next to the 24 pin power is running.. but nothing else does.

im gonna take a uneducated guess at maybe i shorted something on the board. cus the power supply seems to work..

im gonna also take a hopeful prayer.. that my CPU is fine. and my ram is fine.

then im gonna RMA my motherboard. and try again in 4 days
